Monday night we went to a Minor League Baseball game. This was our first game even though we have a team here in town. Every year my employer gets everyone who is interested to go to a game on one of the dime-a-dog nights. Monday morning I told Gavin we had a surprise for him but kept him in suspense about what the surprise actually was. He looked forward to it all day. We were stuck in traffic near the ballpark and he kept saying, “I want to get to my surprise. Where’s my surprise? Are there toys?” Once he found out what we were doing he was pretty excited.
The girls: Abby was very alert for a while after we arrived. She was looking around everywhere at all the new sights. She didn’t have much of a nap all day and eventually passed out for a snooze.
The guys: Brandon took Gav to get a baseball cap and a baseball. Gavin calls it “the hard ball” because it’s a real baseball and well, it’s hard. He knows he is not to throw it in the house and so far so good, but he’s a three year old and chances of him sticking to this are slim.
Brandon stood in the terribly long line for hotdogs. At dime-a-dog prices who wouldn’t be in line for hotdogs? Gavin ate a hot dog on a bun this way for the first time. He tried to hold it but with all the ketchup and mustard he was making a huge mess so I held it for him. He devoured over half of it.
“Sign me up!” Gavin won one of the raffles sponsored by my work. Thankfully, he got the soft baseball and not something that he could do damage with! Another reason he calls his real baseball the “hard ball” is because he has this baseball which is a soft ball. At one point he told us, “Sign me up!” He wanted to be signed up to play baseball with the team. It was adorable. You can bet we’ll sign him up for t-ball when he’s eligible.
Tuesday we took Gavin to his first movie, Toy Story 3! We went to a showing in 3D and were concerned about Gavin wearing the 3D glasses but he did great. He kept his glasses on the entire time and thankfully he had his very own kid’s size so they stayed on well.
Two adult matinee tickets to the theatre $22 (the clerk let Gavin in for free even though he should have had a ticket.), concessions to give Gav the full movie experience $23, having the experience of taking your special little guy to his first movie: priceless.
Gavin selected M&M’s as part of his movie watching snack. He also had his own lemonade. Thankfully sugar doesn’t affect him quite as strongly as it does some kids.
Gavin also enjoyed popcorn for the first time. He loved it! He was so cute sticking his little hand into the bag and munching away.
Gavin in his awesome 3D glasses!
In other news, Gavin completed his first swim class. He received his American Red Cross Guppy patch. I told him he was a guppy to which he responded, “I’m not a guppy, I’m a boy!” We’ve signed him up for the next session of swim lessons. He’ll be in the same level for now. Until he masters all of the required techniques with confidence he won’t move on to level 2. We aren’t the least bit concerned about this. I’d rather him master the necessary skills and develop comfort in the techniques and move him up when the instructor says he’s ready. I wish I had pictures from his swim class experience but some parents get a little touchy if their kid ends up in your picture.
Potty training is still in progress and it’s really wearing on us. What a chore! We’re hoping he masters this so he can start preschool in the fall. There are also some other camps and programs offered at the rec center where he has his swimming lessons that he can’t really participate in until he is potty trained. We may just switch him to his underwear and end the Pull-Ups laziness. It’s gotten to the point where he is well aware of what’s going on and what he needs to do but would rather go in his Pull-Up than use the potty because he doesn’t have to stop what he’s doing to use the bathroom. We have two months left before the start of school and are definitely under the gun to get potty training done.
I’m working hard to post blogs more often so make sure to look back and see if you missed anything! I’d like to get all caught up to present time which means I may even need to post more than once a week. So, if you only get to visit once a week be sure to check to see if you missed any blogs!
