The National Museum of the USAF

Last month we went to the National Museum of the USAF. We're the type of people who will go to a place of interest with the mentality that we're going to see EVERYTHING in one day. No exceptions. We asked a gentleman who was getting us signed up for the tour to the Presidential and Research & Development Galleries how long it would take to see the museum. We were trying to decide what tour time to sign up for and figured we'd see everything else first then go see the Presidential/R&D Galleries. When the guy told us that it takes more than a day to go through the museum we thought, "Sure, we'll get it done in a day. No problem." Wrong! This museum is massive. There are multiple hangars packed with planes. We easily could have spent more than one day there in order to see everything and really enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed. So, hopefully one day we'll go back and spend more time seeing things that we missed. The museum is trying to get one of the shuttles. We're really hoping they do because it would be amazing to see a shuttle up close and in person!

The main drawback of the museum is that the lighting is HORRIBLE for photography. This is noted on their site and they generously provide tips for compensating with your camera. We had to hold very still for Brandon to get a decent shot. That’s quite a feat with a then two year old.

Bummer I missed Gavin getting into this plane. I was off feeding Abby in a dark corner somewhere. He had fun touching all the buttons.

The following photos were taken in the Presidential/R&D Galleries. Several of the planes are open for touring. We were interested to see how the plane’s quarters changed over the years. What was once considered luxury pales in comparison to how our present President flies. The aisles were a very tight squeeze made even narrower by the floor to ceiling Plexiglas preventing anyone from touching anything.

Ladies and Gentlemen: your future President of the United States!

And the future first female President of the United States! What mother wouldn’t think that both of their kids could be President?

Wouldn’t it be great to use this photo at one of his inauguration parties?

What a proud Daddy with his two kiddos!

If you’ve never been to the National Museum of the USAF, I highly recommend the trip. We enjoyed ourselves and hope to go back again sometime.

As a side note, I made the flub again this year of signing a thank you card from myself when I meant to sign it from one of my kids. After doing this on Gavin’s thank you cards last year I told myself I wouldn’t make the same mistake. Oops! So, if there are any other cards out there that I signed incorrectly, you know what I meant.
