Wake up sleepy head it’s time for your first day of
kindergarten!
As usual for us anymore, we were rushed on the first day of
school. On this particular day we had to
be at school for our orientation with the teacher so not only did Gavin need to
be ready to go but we did too. We ate
breakfast as fast as we could so we could head to the bus stop.
Here he goes to the bus stop with his little chocolate donut
that he hadn’t had time to eat in hand.
Abby was in a hurry to keep up and managed to trip and fall. Poor girl is always in such a hurry to keep
up with everyone that she frequently trips and scrapes her knees.
The bus was prompt as can be seen here considering where we
were and where the rest of the kids waiting for the bus were standing. I thought we had enough time to get there with
a few minutes to spare and I suspect the bus actually showed up a minute or two
early.
Things were so rushed that no one had time to think about
what was going on. Gavin didn’t resist
and we didn’t cry.
The bus seemed so big for such a little guy to climb onto. The driver gave him a warm welcome and
wondered why Gav didn’t bring a donut for him too.
There goes our little/big guy. Abby did ask if she’d ever see him
again. Brandon assured her that she
would see him in a few minutes when we met him at school.
We waited out in front of the school for Gavin to
arrive. Abby loved the pinwheels in the
flowers.
Gavin finally arrived!
He was pretty excited to see us when he got off the bus.
Here goes Gavin into school!
He remembered which way he needed to go to get to his classroom.
Gav placed his lunchbox into the lunch tub and posed for a
quick picture.
Gav went into his classroom to say hello to his teacher. He met her over the weekend by chance at a
local park and then again he saw her at open house earlier this week.
As the students came in they were directed to their seats
and asked to draw a picture of their family.
Gavin was hard at work.
He did such a great job!
Gavin is with the frogs for the days of the week he goes to
school. His backpack is hanging here
under his name.
The students left with staff to tour the school, play on the
playground, go to the library, and meet the principal while the parents stayed
and met with the teacher. She went over
a million pieces of paper and more information than we could ever
remember. Abby sat in Gavin’s spot and
colored with the stuff that I brought to keep her entertained. At one point Gavin’s teacher asked Abby if
she wanted to help. Abby said yes so the
teacher held her and had Abby help hold up papers.
After an hour or so the kids came back and we said our
goodbyes.
The kids went to sit on the floor and sat down waiting for
their teacher while all the parents went across the hall for the “Yee-haw/Boo-hoo
Breakfast.” The principal asked if we
were yee-haw or boo-hoo about Gavin going to school. There were plenty of boo-hoos but we weren’t
one of them.
After a quiet day at home for us and a busy day at school
for Gav it was time for him to come home.
He was sitting on the bus staring out the window. He hadn’t gotten up and I waved at him to get
off the bus.
He was tired!
Gav handed me his backpack and walked off toward home.
He said hello and goodbye to daddy who was headed to work.
We went inside and sat down at the table for a snack. I asked Gav questions about his day and he
wasn’t very chatty. He was worn
out. He did say they didn’t learn much
because it was the first day and that next week they are going to do something
with clay in art class. When asked what
he thinks of his teacher he said, “I like her.”
We like her too and think it’s going to be a great year for Gavin.
