One year ago this past Friday, August 3, I took Stormy to
the vet to be put to sleep. Our family had
plenty of conversations about her and sharing of memories in the last
year. I still have no doubt that it was
the best decision for her and for our family.
Once in a while I’ll catch myself expecting to see her at
the top of the stairs or think I glimpse her darting across the room out of the
corner of my eye. Certainly I’ve thought
of her many times over the last twelve months.
Imagine how stunned I was at Petsmart to see these two cats
that look exactly like Stormy. We went
into the store for Mocha’s food and the kids always like to walk through and
see the animals. We’d been past the
reptiles and the birds and they wanted to see the cats. We were there for a minute before I even
realized these two were sitting in the upper left corner. So many of the kittens were playful on this
particular day and my attention was drawn elsewhere. As I looked up and saw these kitties I was stunned. It literally took my breath away for a
moment. I felt like I was looking into
not one, but two faces of my cat. In
that moment it seemed the only thing that made them any different from her was
that they were much younger. The
resemblance is uncanny.
Don’t worry, there were no pangs of wanting another
cat. We are quite content with the zoo
we have here consisting of Thing 1, Thing 2, Mocha, and Jax.
