Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!  Here are some pictures from our latest fall activities…

We took the kids to Hocking to see the leaves.  On the way we picked up some sandwiches so we could have lunch when we arrived.  Gav and Abby were so cute sitting in the back of the van munching away on their lunches.

Gav enjoyed these trails better than Old Man’s Cave because 1) there weren’t any stairs and 2) it wasn’t horrifically humid like it was in June when we last took the kids.  Abby was thrilled that she was allowed to walk this time.

The kids had fun throwing rocks into this pool of water.  When B and I were here in April the waterfall was more voluminous after the spring rains.  This time the water flow compared more to a shower head. 

Abby loves to hold hands when she walks.  Gavin was never a huge fan and it always seemed to be a fight in parking lots and other places where holding hands was not optional.  It’s so cute how Abby will reach up and take hold.

I had been hoping for more reds in the leaves.  Most were yellow and there was of course still plenty of green.  Most of the red leaves we saw were along the roadways.  The leaves hadn’t reached their peak yet but we were afraid that if we waited until they did, the weather would be too cold to take the kids to see them anyway.

After Ash Cave we headed over to Cedar Falls.  Abby enjoyed looking down into the water under the bridge.

Gavin dressed up for preschool last week.  This year he wanted to be a “SWAT guy.”  The class had their Halloween parade through the gym with all of the kids in their costumes. 

He enjoyed blowing the whistle that is attached to his costume.  Yes, attached.  As in I can’t remove it and make the whistling stop without taking away the whole vest because what four year old would be able to resist blowing a whistle attached to their shirt? 

After the parade the kids lined up for a class picture.

Friday we carved our pumpkins!  Last year Abby lounged in the bouncer seat while we carved pumpkins.  This year she was in on the action!

While Abby was interested in what was going on, she wasn’t keen on touching the inside of the pumpkins.  She looked and touched the outside, but she absolutely refused to grab any goo. 

Gav made an attempt at scooping out some of the seeds but inevitably flung them all over the place.  He wasn’t interested in the goo either.

 

We bought a handy spoon this year that is specifically for cleaning out pumpkins.  It worked like a charm.  We didn’t spend an hour scraping away at the inside of the pumpkin trying to get all the stuff out. 

Abby ended up in baby jail.  She and her brother were having issues and it wasn’t a good choice to allow her to continue standing on the chair.  Unfortunately, every time we removed her from the situation she would just climb back up on the chair.  To baby jail she went.

Gavin wanted a ghost so I carved a ghost while B worked on a skull.

With the proper tools we were finished in no time!

Tonight is trick-or-treat and I’m sure we’ll have plenty of pictures to share after.  This will be Abby’s first year trick-or-treating.  She is so cute when she says “trick-or-treat.”  It sounds more like “tick-o-teet.”  Have a great Halloween!
