Gavin went to his first Buckeye game to watch OSU play Purdue Saturday. Gavin did such a great job walking long distances. Although I think he was bored
at times we had a great day.
First, we walked from the PD to The Blackwell. If you have been to campus you know that’s a
hike for a five year old.
Gav checked out the SRT vehicles and visited with Brandon
while we were waiting for the team to make the walk from The Blackwell to St.
John Arena.
The weather was a bit damp to start off the day but improved
with some peeks of sun as they day went on.
We were all bundled up in layers of clothing.
Here comes the team!
Gavin got to give Urban Meyer five!
The team was on the way to St. John Arena for the Skull
Session. We followed and for the first
time ever, I went to a Skull Session. In
four years there as a student I never went but I know now that I should
have.
Of course OSU’s marching band was at Skull Session (that’s
kind of the point) but a high school band and Purdue’s band performed too.
After the Skull Session we visited Brandon briefly and then
went to the stadium. We made the trek up
to C deck and picked up some snacks before making the trek up to our seats. We arrived in time to see the band make their
way in to the stadium.
The band did Script Ohio before the game as they had another
show planned for half time and Purdue’s band was playing at half time as well.
Here come the Buckeyes!
Gav and mommy at the game!
Gav took the camera and started taking pictures of him and
pretty much anything else around. I had
to tell him to get the camera out of the face of the guy sitting next to
us.
It was freezing cold with the wind blowing through the
inside of the stadium but Gavin had to have his Dippin’ Dots.
He must have been freezing because he actually let me put
his hat on him.
Being October and that OSU has the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive
Breast Center, there was quite a bit of pink at the stadium.
To say that the Bucks weren’t having a great day is an
understatement. I wasn’t convinced that
the team even showed up for the game. The
quarterback was carted off to the hospital with an injury and our backup QB was
in. With 1:37 left to go in the game we
were down 14-22. Things weren’t looking
good and I was bummed that they were going to lose the first game that Gavin
had ever been to. I told Gavin that we
had to score a touchdown and get a two point conversion to tie up the game and
put us into overtime for any chance to win the game. He looked at me like, “Oookay mom, whatever
you say.” Then he asked if we could go
home. Um, no.
Lo and behold the Buckeyes pulled off a touchdown AND the
two point conversion. We were tied and
headed into overtime. The Buckeyes were
on offense first.
They got a touchdown!
The defense decided that maybe it was time to actually play
and held off the Boilermakers for the win.
It was amazing. It was
shocking. It was the reason why you must
always stay to the end of a Buckeye game.
This is my, “Holy moly!
Did that just happen? They pulled
off a win!” face.
Time to celebrate!
Time and change will surely show…How firm thy friendship…O..HI..O!
The Buckeyes didn’t play well all game and certainly didn’t
deserve the win. But, it was Gavin’s
first game and the Bucks pulled it off so I was grateful anyway.
When I asked Gavin if he was going to go to a game with me
next year, he said no. I’m hoping he
changes his mind because we did have fun.
