Christmas Decorations

Gavin had been asking for a few weeks to put up Christmas decorations.  My response to this was absolutely not until after Thanksgiving.  So, the day after Thanksgiving, up the décor went.  It still feels a little early for me but the kids are thrilled and so far it’s been nice to enjoy the pretty lights and cute decorations.

One of Brandon’s aunts gave us this snowman a few years ago.  We hadn’t had him out until this year when the kids were showing an interest in him.  He plays music and skis across the floor.  Gav and Abby love him!

Gavin was most eager to get to the tree.  Having the tree up meant putting the train up and his day wasn’t going to be complete without playing with the train.  Abby was in baby jail because she couldn’t leave anything alone.  I really didn’t want our 20 month old playing with breakable ornaments.  She was quite content reading Elmo books and playing for a bit while we put the ornaments on the tree.

I don’t know if it was because it was getting late or just the number of ornaments we have but this process seemed to go on forever.

Maybe it was that our helper was concentrating his efforts in one area of the tree and this particular area needed frequent attention from me.  At least he was trying and having a good time.

We freed Abby from baby jail so that she could put on an ornament too.  She didn’t want to put it on the tree.  “No!” she kept telling me.  I’ve said before but I’ll say again, the girl has a mind about things and there’s no changing it.  I have no idea where that comes from.

Just when it seemed she would put the ornament on the tree…

…she turned around with a big grin that said no way!

Finally Gav and Abby were able to play with the train for a bit.  They were quite gleeful and then thankfully it was time for bed.

The decorations are all up now.  We had to wait a day to finish them because we couldn’t get to the mantle on Friday.  Unfortunately, our elf inconveniently landed on the mantle and he isn’t allowed to be touched so I had to wait until Saturday to decorate it.  Anyway, the kids love all the lights, sparkly things, and finding our elf every morning.
