Gavin had his first day of preschool on Tuesday. It was an orientation day so he only went for one hour to get acclimated to his classroom and what preschool is all about. I think he had a great time and that he’s going to have a wonderful school year.
We’re on the way to school! Yes I was driving and I also took this picture. But no worries, we were stopped a red light. We were both getting pretty excited about his first day.
When we got there he told me to put his backpack on him, he still hasn’t quite figured out how to manipulate the straps yet. Then he told me he wanted me to take his picture in the van. Your wish is my command, son. Poor Abby was conked out in her car seat because she hadn’t had one proper nap at home the entire day.
He looks so cute in his Toy Story outfit with the Toy Story shoes and his Toy Story backpack.
When we got inside he put on his nametag. He hung his backpack on the hooks outside the classroom and was ready to go. Unfortunately, they weren’t ready to start yet so he had to hang out with me for a few minutes. He was so eager to get into his classroom!
Our little guy is growing up so fast!
This is how they take attendance every day. The children grab the clothespin with their name on it and attach it to Mrs. Long’s necklace. At parent’s night they told us that the action of pinching the clothespin and having to do this helps them build the muscles in their hands to prepare them for writing. Mrs. Long told him to say goodbye to mom and he turned to me, waved, and said, “See ya mom!” Off he went.
Abby and I went to Caribou for some coffee while Gavin was at school. Since it was only one hour there was no sense in driving all the way home. And no, she didn’t get any of the coffee but she had plenty of fun touching the cup because it was a cold drink and I think she found the sensation intriguing.
When I went to pick him up Mrs. Long came out to brief the parents on what they did for the day. She said she does this after every class. During the one hour he was there they played with playdoh, painted, made a rainbow craft, worked on some sign language, learned about the rainbow and how it is a sign of God’s promise to us, played a game where they rolled a ball back and forth to the other children to learn names and get used to speaking in front of groups, and they managed to fit in a snack. There may have been something else in there as well but I was impressed with what they did in just one hour! I imagine he’ll be exhausted after two and a half hours!
Gavin showed daddy his rainbow craft when he got home. I was trying to get him to stand up and pose for some more pictures but he refused.
I think he was quite pleased with what he’d accomplished in his first day of school.
And after all of that work and fun, he was exhausted. School takes place during his usual nap time so this will require some adjustment. He relaxed on the couch for a bit and had some trouble getting through the rest of the night so it was early to bed. I can’t see what he does tomorrow! We’re so proud of him!

I can't believe he's old enough for pre-school already! Love his shorts, too, by the way!
